Subject: Gratitude for today’s (2/6/06) “Everyday Hero” article and photo.
I wish to thank Diane Loebel, fully in charge of the “Everyday Hero” section in the Pasco Tribune. Today’s fine article, accompanied by Scott Iskowitz superb photo that honored Chuck & Anna Fulk, was truly outstanding. It captured the spirit of both these inspiring people and underlined the value they have become to a grateful community. My only ‘tweaking’ of Diane’s illuminating article is simply to note: Both Chuck & Anna are not your “everyday heroes;” they are, in my book, “extraordinary heroes.”
As the Co-Chair of Toys for Tots of East Pasco, I know something about volunteers and the authentic heroes they become. As our beloved program has grown and developed, I have had the privilege of directing many of these ‘bright’ volunteers. My experience over the years has placed me in blissful contact with (literately) hundreds of altruistic community volunteers. I think of them all in terms of what President Bush (the elder) once described, as “points of light.” Our volunteer force brings both light and the spirit of hope to those we cheerily serve. Sadly, I’m never, fully able, to recognize all the many individuals and organizations that make our program such a powerfully resounding success.
Once in awhile, however, I have the extreme privilege of finding unique folks, such as Anna & Chuck. They have risen to the challenge and become “Lighting Bolts,” in our ever-expanding program. Besides Anna and Chuck I might easily apply the term of “Lightening Bolts” to all of our Toys for Tots captains, and indeed, many others. Each year they awaken to meet the lofty goals we have set. Together we all have embarked on a mission to provide (year-round) assistance to the Pasco children living in abject poverty.
When our “Lightening Bolts” efficiently direct our many “points of light,” they inspire hope and the true Spirit of Christmas (year-round) to many families and all of the children we serve. The results are both awesomely inspiring to everyone involved.
So thank you Diane & Scott, for your efforts to praise many of our local heroes. Your gifted work is divine. And, of course, thank you for successfully recognizing two of our program’s ‘extraordinary heroes’: Chuck & Anna Fulk.
God Bless you; and by the way, God Bless each of our ‘brilliant’ community heroes.
